And a peacock in a pear tree…

One of the coolest things about being a writer is seeing your work get stuck in someone’s head like a burr and seed into other interesting things you wouldn’t have imagined.

I love getting to see fan-art and fan-fiction. (Apart from that disturbingly detailed Moxy necrophilia story I once read).

I picked up two cool things lately:

1. A story set in the Zoo City universe by Gryphons Egg, where the rogue investigator character has a peacock. It’s such a perfect choice of troublesome animal, I wish I’d thought of it. (And I may try to slip a peacock into the background in the movie script somewhere in tribute).

2. These collage-y cover remixes by William Oak, sent to me by his friend Anél Viktor. I especially love the comic book insets and the animalistic texturing.

(See also: The the Zoo City Bares, commissioned customised  vinyl art toys for a charity auction,  the Zoo City-inspired art exhibition put together by Wits curators and some of my favourite unsolicited fan-art)
