Satire gets hot ‘n’ heavy

hot and heavy with the prez

Just heard that Z News (the scathing puppet satire show I worked on together with Ben Trovato, Tumiso Tsukudu and Zapiro himself) has been selected for screening at INPUT 2009, the world’s biggest public broadcaster conference.

To quote from INPUT’s official programme:

“Even though is not an innovative format – it is a news parody with puppets – the question of “what are the limits of freedom of speech“ can be heard in this programme. Could this be a relevant question both in Africa and beyond.”

Could it indeed?

So that's what you get up to these days in the office, Lauren. Don't forget to take a shower.
Awesome news - let's hope this helps propel it onto SA telly, where it belongs.

Mazeltov, Lauren. And glad you brought up that link, so those of us who didn't know about it could watch it. It's very funny. People Against People Agaist People Agaist Anything At All. Love it.

Wish I could claim credit for that line, Ted, that was classic Ben Trovato. Zhrek was mine and Idols (although Tumi was the genius who suggested "I Will Survive" for Mbeki.)

Congrats! Can you write us a piece about the making and frustrations of the show for The Big Issue, please?

Last night I read Jenny Diski's piece in the London Review of Books which criticised the fashion today for expressions of "easy emotion". Her essay was straddled by Frank Kermode and Terry Eagleton, and I felt as if I had been pulled in front of the class and dressed down by all the teachers at once. I have no choice but to recant my comment above and my easy public confessions in other posts.

NOT!! LOL!! The happy pills must be kicking in.

As you can see... it's all about ME ME ME, even when it's about the Pres and Zapiro and Lauren etc.
Nothing like a bit of egomania in the morning.
I have just discovered that my coffee is leaking out of a crack in the side of the cup. This at a major national franchise, but at least they invite me to plug in so I don't want to burn my bridges.
    Decaff next time.

Note to Bronwyn - cut down on Louis' sugar and E-numbers. He's bouncing off the walls. No more marshmallows, Flings or fizzy drinks.

Do tell us about your flings, Louis.

Congrats to the puppeteers! And especially to Lauren for boldly distracting the prez.

(I look forward to being Fiona for five seconds before I freshen up.)

Enjoy the high, Louis. Isn't it wonderful when the happy pills kick in? along with the caffeine, sugar, chocolate, champagne...

PS: Richard, did you enjoy your five seconds in Fiona's shoes? (and underwear?) And I get to be Du Nooy for five seconds! Oowee, hold on for the rush!!

I hereby solemnly swear, Fiona, that I did not at any time imagine myself in your underwear, until Helen J. Felon so boldly suggested I should.

I have a very pretty negligee, Richard. Lace, cleavage, that sort of thing. Enjoy it while it lasts. Meanwhile I get another 5 seconds in your smoking jacket... (gosh it pongs)
